Spring

March – May

Our favourite time. Rhododendrons in bloom, clear skies, and temperatures from 10°–22°C in the valleys. Ideal for all routes.

Autumn

September – Nov

The second peak season. Crystal-clear mountain views after the monsoon, perfect riding weather, and the iconic Thimphu Tshechu festival in late September.

Monsoon

June – August

Roads can be wet and some high passes closed. We run modified lower-altitude routes. Lush green landscapes and fewer tourists. Good for experienced riders.

Winter

December – Feb

Cold at altitude (below freezing at passes) but western valley roads remain open. Ideal for the Paro Valley Explorer. Crisp air and incredible visibility.

Know the Road

Essential riding tips and travel etiquette for the Kingdom of Bhutan.

RIDE BHUTAN
On Two Wheels in The Land of The Thunder Dragon

Riding Motorcycles in The Kingdom of Bhutan

With Bhutan TUSK Motorcycle Tours — customised tours with fully personalised services. Ride amongst the high Himalayan mountains, deep valleys, suspension bridges, prayer flags, and centuries-old temples.

Road Conditions

Roads in Bhutan are refreshingly empty but mountainous terrain limits average speeds to 35–40 km/h. Maximum speed limit is 60 km/h — enforced by speed guns. Always stay extreme left on blind corners.

Your Support Team

Every tour is supported by a minimum of three multi-tasking staff: — a highly trained and certified lifesaving expert who is also a Department of Tourism–certified English-speaking guide, an experienced mechanic who doubles as the Road Captain, and a multi-tasking driver accompanying every group.

Gear & Safety

Helmet is mandatory by law for all riders. Bring your own for hygiene. Dress in layers — a single day takes you from warm valleys to cold mountain passes. Be ready for anything.

Road Rules

Ride on the left side. Honking is restricted near hospitals, schools, monasteries and town centres. Always give way to ambulances and VIP vehicles. Never overtake the Road Captain.

Culture & Etiquette

Wear long pants and sleeves at monasteries and offices. Use your whole palm, never a finger to point. Don't place feet on or over tables. Respect customs — do as the locals do.

Good to Know

Drones are illegal in Bhutan. No bargaining culture — stated price is final. Internet is near 100% coverage. Power is 240V / 50Hz with round-hole sockets. Don't bring banknotes older than 10 years.

Quick Rules Helmet mandatory for all riders Ride on the left Max speed 60 km/h No drones — strictly illegal No honking in restricted zones Never overtake the Road Captain
